Upcoming news

The TywynnArt website is going to be undergoing some new changes in the upcoming few weeks. Some of these changes are going to include a completely new look; new colours, new backgrounds, new areas to explore. Along with this some of the old aspects will be disappearing. The store will be removed for now and a few more links are going to be added in.

Along with this I plan to make a few changes to the blog itself. If you’re an older reader of this blog it might come as a bit of a surprise.

As many know I have returned to the University of Windsor. I’m no longer a Visual Arts Student *gasps are heard in the distance* I have decided that art should remain a hobby so that I won’t tire of doing it in the long run. As the change of subjects commences I might even get worse at writing for my blog (as if that really is a possibility) But I plan to continue to attempt to keep it updated often.

You will also begin to see such things as poems as the blog entries. A while ago I began to write a book of poetry and I plan to put some of those poems up here to get them out there so that I can get some opinions on them.

Peace out for now everyone, have a good one!

Lots to do

I have to apologize that all my blog posts are far apart. There’s a lot of stuff to get done these days and I’m pretty busy running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off. With work and University there’s not much room for spending time writing for my blog.

Been Gone

Hey guys, I’ve been gone for a little while. First with my boyfriend moving to a new apartment with me down south then I ended up back in Canada.
I have to apologize for the fact that I haven’t been around to keep my blog updated properly like I promised to but under the circumstances I’m hoping for everything to start going a lot smoother.
I just started a new job so it may be a little while and because I’m now a CSR for Comcast I just wanted to let you know: be nice to the CSR’s, we’re there to help you out with any problem you’re having with your services.
Over an out,
Kate

Apologies

Just adding a little something here to explain my absence for the past little while.
Short and sweet: no internet right now, having trouble with connection. Sorry, bbiab.

Just a little rant

Alright, this rant is going to seem like a far cry from what I usually write my blog about but when I found out about a certain game I couldn’t help but write this particular entry.

You can flick through the television often and just about never see a “fat” chick in any of the major shows. I’m not talking about cartoons I’m talking about shows like Hells Kitchen. I’m a huge fan of Hell’s Kitchen’s current contestant Robert, and no, it’s not just because he’s bigger, it’s because he’s an amazing chef and gives it his all. But lately the bachelor show has come out with a new “idea” and that’s to have larger women come on for men to choose from. Great idea! Except there’s little draw back for me, they don’t just invite these women onto the regular show as a random thing, they make it the “more to love” show. That’s crap, they’re still just women and this is degrading and these women are being used for the show to bring in more money.

Now, to move on to what I really want to focus on today. The Fat Princess game. Yes, I am female, and yes, I am bigger but seriously people what the hell were you on when you came out with this game. I stumbled upon a blog which was talking about how feminists shouldn’t be insulted by this game that it’s more of a game that they should love because the men are fighting over her. Um.. no. How about the men of the game shove their cake up their asses and give the damned princess the sword. That would be more appropriate to making a game that doesn’t insult feminists everywhere. But no, some moron somewhere got this brilliant idea that this game would be a brilliant idea because young men and boys everywhere would have a freaking gas and love it.

What the creators of this game just happened to forget is that there are a growing number of female gamers out there – I’m one of them – and we like to enjoy a game just as much as men. However, I don’t see myself ever buying the fat princess game, like I said before, not only am I female but I’m also bigger. I find the entire concept of this game insulting. So I can also guarantee that my boyfriend – also a gamer – won’t be buying it either. I know that’s just two gamers down off the list of who will buy their product, but I’m also sure there’s still a nice number of gamers out there that share my opinion.

Get a grip people, make better games.

Jerry’s Artarama

Today I think I’m going to start writing down a list. This list I’m going to title “Art Stores that Nobody Knows About.” The first store that I’m going to put on this list is going to be Jerry’s Artarama. And the reason I’m going to put this store on this list is rather simple. I have absolutely never heard of this store before and yet at first glance it looks absolutely wonderful.

When I first navigated to this website I was surprised to see on the front page and advertisement for FREE Art Lessons. These lessons have been placed on to the website in video format. The artist’s who do the ‘teaching’ in these art lessons challenge the viewers and actually shows that they actually knows what their doing. This is way more than impressive as many websites charge for this kind of thing.

The stores provide a wonderful selection of art supplies on their online store though I have seen much better catalog done in other sites. Despite their not-so-organized catalog format however, Jerry’s Artarama shows their products at almost shockingly low prices. As someone who has spent upwards to $3 on a single sakura pigma micron pen I nearly wanted to smack myself in the face. While there are many people who would say that a dollar less isn’t that big of a deal I’d just like to say that $1 goes a long way after purchasing 30 or so pens. Not to mention the fact that they have an entire page on the site that is dedicated to telling their customers what items are on sale. One look at the page that is showing items up to 77% off and I nearly started to drool on myself.

All in all I give Jerry’s Artarama an 8 out of 10.

Blick Art Materials

Blick Art Materials has a wide variety of art supplies available to artists online as well as at their store locations.  Their online store has been wonderfully organized to allow customers easy navigation to ensure that they have absolutely no problem locating store location or the supplies that they wish to order online.

Blick’s offers a wide variety of supplies for any form of art that could ever be needed.  Locating their items is as simple as looking through their catalog, located along the left hand side of their website or searching their site using keywords in their search.  They also offer the opportunity for their customers to order a catalog or order the items they need by the item numbers.

The store offers their items at a price that allows many artists the ability to purchase what they need at a relatively low price. However, despite their lower prices they do not offer their items at a low enough price to allow a larger variety of customers to purchase what they need.

Many of their store locations offer custom framing at a lower price than can be found in most art supply shops which allows artists a better opportunity for them to get all of their work framed and ready to be sold. The biggest problem that can be found with Blick’s Art Materials is that their retail stores are not very easy to find. In total Blick’s has 34 stores throughout the entire country. For those who have the ability to order online or are close to one of their stores I would strongly suggest paying them a visit.

Artists in Today’s World

Have you ever walked through a big city and seen graffiti lining the outsides of the buildings? Some of the art you see there are detailed and exquisite. Lots of young people in today’s world are talented artists who don’t have the resources to get themselves known in the world and get their names out there.

It’s a shame, many wonderful talented people are put to waste. People should encourage visual arts just as much as they do the dramatic and musical arts.

On top of that, many art supply stores have prices marked so high that artists who have a chance to get out and known in the world can’t do it because they simply can’t afford to go out and purchase the supplies to do their work.

Places such as Hobby Lobby and Michael’s sell a large variety of the supplies it takes to do virtually any form of art. From pens to painting canvases. The problem is, one pen at one of these stores can cost as much as $3. For many people that’s highway robbery. Not many people have the money that it takes to go out and spend $100 to buy the supplies for one simple picture or painting.

Now imagine for a second that art supplies were made much easier for people to acquire and people who had these talents were given the opportunity to go out into the world and make something of themselves. It would help to open more venues for people to reach out into in order to earn the money they need to make it in today’s economy.
